6. The New Woman Behind the Camera at the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC

During the 1920s, the modern woman was recognizable but hard to define.  Becoming a global phenomenon, she embodied the model of the “real” woman: engaged in revolutionary movements and in art,  including photography. This exhibition presents these “modern women” who adopted the camera as a mode of expression and deeply marked the medium from the 1920s to 1950s.
