Three exhibitions, three cravings

Ben at the Maillol museum

BEN-AU-MUSEE-MAILLOL_Artsper

If you would like to see the work of a renowned artist of contemporary art, you have to go to the Maillol Museum this weekend. Indeed the artist Ben Vautier is no longer presented, nevertheless “Everything is Art?” is his first important retrospective in France. This will be as well the first exhibition at the Maillol Museum after its reopening in 2016. Artsper recommends it to you for two reasons: first of all for the irreducibly provocative side of Ben, who will be himself one of the curators of the exhibition and second the presence of his latest creations.

“Images et Mots depuis  Magritte” at the Center Wallonie-Bruxelles

artpser

For the lovers of words, the Center Wallonie-Bruxelles will be holding an exhibition which is a combination of contemporary art and language. Modern art and contemporary art have seen the birth of a particular reflection between words, meaning and works of art. Magritte’s work is one of the most prominent examples of this, her work can not be understood if its not linked to surrealist poetry. We immediately think of her famous piece “La Trahison des Images” where is written “I’m not a Pipe”. In this exhibition, the Center Wallonie-Brussels invites us to discover the artistic research about the work of 28 artists, which is a good complement to the exhibition “Magritte, la Trahison des Images” taking place at the Centre Pompidou.

Six of his pieces are exhibited there in a circular enveloping space. In this collection, Jiang Dahai explores and uses the subjects of mist and clouds, inciting the visitor to meditation. The plus? The exhibition is free.

The Parisian years belongs to the last phase of creation of Vassily Kandinsky, inventor of abstract art. Among the exhibitions devoted to the artist, the exhibitions dedicated only to this period are rare (The last one was in 1972!), this is why is so important to not miss this opportunity proposed by the Museum of Grenoble. Besides that, the pieces exhibited come from the Centre Pompidou and from other internationally prestigious institutions: one more reason to go and admire the work of this master of modern art.

For this exhibition focused on the work of Urs Fischer after 2013, we can definitely talk about excess! All the exhibition spaces of the Van Gogh Foundation are dedicated to his work and to one of his installations, MELODRAMA, which takes a space of 400 square meters. The diversity of formats and media of expression used by the artist is part of what makes this exhibition unmissable. In the corner of a hall, you will even discover a painting by Van gogh, Underwood, which is an annual loan from the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam.

Jan fabre artsper

The challenge faced by MAC Lyon is a difficult one: to expose a performance. Through the prolific work of artist Jan Fabre on the subject, the exhibition manages to reconstruct the creative process of the performance through sketches, objects and models, which clarifies the final performance projected on screens. A way to understand and discover ephemeral events which are not always easy to attend.
