Spring 2026 Art Guide: Exhibitions and Events to See in France
Spring 2026 in Art: Exhibitions and Events to Experience in Paris and Giverny, from Calder to Monet, for Unforgettable Experiences
Summer 2026 art events look particularly rich across Europe. Moreover, the season brings together international biennials, major exhibitions, contemporary art fairs, and cultural festivals. As a result, it offers an exceptional concentration of events for art lovers. From Venice to Copenhagen, and also through Paris, Arles, and Kassel, this guide highlights the must see artistic events to discover between June and September 2026.
Giardini and Arsenale, Venice
The 61st edition, titled Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, continues throughout the summer under the artistic direction of Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa.
Moreover, the title is borrowed from a Turin collective from the early 2000s. Here, it becomes the guiding thread for a reflection on otherness, migration, and narratives long kept at the margins of major institutions.
In addition, the majority of the artists featured come from the Global South, many for the first time in this context. As a result, this edition feels politically engaged and emotionally dense. It also marks a clear break from previous editions.

Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris
This is the the most important retrospective devoted to Lee Miller in France in twenty years. The exhibition traces her entire career: her fashion photographs in 1930s Paris, her surrealist portraits created alongside Man Ray, and her war reportage, among the most significant of the 20th century.
Photographer, model, and war correspondent, Lee Miller embodies a trajectory that defies categorization, and this retrospective finally gives her the place she deserves.

Grand Palais, Paris
The Argentine artist is known for his architectural installations that short-circuit perception. For example, he creates building facades that visitors seem to walk on, staircases that lead nowhere, and inverted rooms. Moreover, for this exhibition, he is developing a series of new works designed specifically for the venue’s exceptional spaces. As a result, the installation becomes an art of visual disorientation that is both playful and unsettling.

Leandro Erlich Studio, Building, 2004. Digital print on linoleum, lights, iron, wood, and mirror. Le Centquatre, Paris, 2011
Winner of the Turner Prize in 2013, she develops a universe at the boundary between cinema, installation, and performance. Moreover, her work explores the collision of languages, bodies, and images, often in a hypnotic flow. In addition, her work at the Grand Palais extends a practice that transforms narrative disorientation into a true artistic language.

Grande Halle de La Villette, Paris
After London and New York, the most ambitious traveling exhibition dedicated to street art and urban culture arrives in Paris. Moreover, it brings together more than 120 artists from 30 countries. The exhibition features monumental murals, site specific works, and installations created especially for the Grande Halle de La Villette. As a result, it highlights how artistic forms born outside traditional institutions now have their own history, depth, and legitimacy.

Among the most anticipated art events of summer 2026, the major international fairs confirm their central role in discovering artists and new market trends.
Bâle, Suisse
The leading fair on the global contemporary and modern art market brings together more than 280 galleries from 40 countries. Moreover, the 2026 edition introduces for the first time a section entirely dedicated to digital practices and generative AI, reflecting a debate that has both divided and fascinated the sector for several years. As a result, the Unlimited section, devoted to monumental works, and Parcours, which activates the urban spaces of Basel, remain the most spectacular moments of the week.

Copenhague, Danemark
Since its founding in 2015, Art Copenhagen has established itself as a barometer of the Nordic art scene. The fair takes place at Lokomotivværkstedet, a former railway hall converted in the heart of Copenhagen, and brings together around sixty Scandinavian and international galleries. Its deliberate focus on emerging and mid-career artists gives it an energy that many major fairs have often lost.

Summer 2026 art events are not limited to museums and art fairs. Several major festivals also offer programs that blend photography, live performance, and visual arts.
Arles
Founded in 1970 by Lucien Clergue, Michel Tournier, and Jean-Maurice Rouquette, Les Rencontres d’Arles has become the most important photography festival in the world. The 2026 edition presents more than 50 exhibitions spread across private mansions, churches, industrial wastelands, and the Musée Réattu, turning the entire city into an exhibition space.
The festival has revealed or established Robert Frank, William Klein, Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman, and Martin Parr. The nighttime screenings at the ancient theatre, where each evening a photographer presents their work in front of Roman tiers of seating, remain one of the most distinctive moments of the summer cultural calendar.

Avignon
Founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, the Avignon Festival is the major gathering of live performance in France. Theater and dance form its core, but visual arts are playing an increasingly important role: installations in heritage sites, exhibitions in dialogue with performances, and interventions in public space. The Off program — 1,500 companies and 50,000 performances — forms an autonomous artistic territory in its own right, often more adventurous than the official selection.

Spolète, Italie
Founded in 1958 by composer Gian Carlo Menotti, the Spoleto Festival blends music, opera, dance, and visual arts in a medieval city in Umbria. The 2026 edition includes several site specific contemporary art exhibitions, taking over the city’s palaces and public spaces. It is one of those rare festivals where the program and the setting reinforce each other — it is hard to say which is more beautiful.

With their geographical and artistic diversity, the Summer 2026 art events offer an exceptional overview of contemporary creation. From major biennials to photography festivals, and international art fairs, the summer of 2026 is an ideal period to discover the trends shaping the art world.
