What to do this week-end? Exhibitions that you shouldn’t miss

June shows up with a myriad of revelries. The auspices begin in the neighborhood of St Germain des Pres, dash to Basel before stopping off at the Big Apple. A quick scan of 5 events, which are definitely a must-see according to Artsper.

Contemporary work floods Saint Germain des Pres from the 8th until the 17th June. Symbolic places of the neighborhood (bars, hotels, restaurants, squares, perfumeries…) are filled with unprecedented and mixed works: paintings, sculptures, photos, installations. The theme being “fragments of a motionless journey”, a process which promotes inner journey and soul searching. Supported by Paris, this annual event is unmissable in the art world.

A major figure of the artistic scene during the 70’s and 80’s, pioneer of corporeal art in France,  Michel Journiac asserts his position as an elusive myth. About hundred of his works are displayed at Maison de la Photographie, offering a variety of themes: Traps, Rituals, Contracts and Icons. “The transgression of bodies is the governing principle of his work, the commissioners Françoise Docquiert and Pascal Hoël present, a carnival like exhibition (art which knocks over norms, rituals, morale, sexuality and identity…)”.

At the same time as Art Basel, the Volta fair, promotes emerging galleries. For its 12th edition, the event is back with 68 galleries from 20 countries and 33 cities. Co-founded by the galleries:  Kavi Gupta, Friedrich Loock, Uli Voges and the art critic Amanda Coulson, the fair is an essential addition to Art Basel. A fair which highlights quality presentations. A series of celebrations and events await collectors, visitors or fans, mainly a celebration of galleries and collectors.

New York. Doug Wheeler – The Guggenheim

An impression of floating in a vast unlimited space, the muted room put together by Doug Wheeler offers an immersive experience, which is sublimely aesthetic. Pioneer of the Light and Space movement and a famous Californian artist, the latter is able to throw our senses off balance. Feelings hover over the Guggenheim Museum, this experience is able to immerse the spectator in the desert of North Arizona, through hypnotic colors.

A multi-sensory experience in a legendary universe, Pink Floyd the iconic group of the 70’s. Victoria & Albert Museum revive the psychedelic pop-rock sound, forerunner of the great contemporary melting pot. A true laboratory of experiments in sounds and visual effects, the exhibition presents a total work of art.
