Museum shows we're looking forward to in 2019

Here’s a short summary of the arty events that the Artsper team is looking forward to in 2019. Get your diaries out, these art fairs and museum shows are not ones to miss!

The Moon at the Grand Palais

This show commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. The exhibition brings together works about the moon’s multiple facets. From fantasy and dreams, to real and imagined journeys, discover the floating silvery sphere as you’ve never seen it before.

Thomas Schütte at the Monnaie de Paris

The first retrospective of the German sculptor to take place in Paris, the exhibition at the Monnaie de Paris is one of the key events of the year. The Parisian instiutuion will present the artist’s works in three acts, retracing his evolution from Gerhard Richter’s student to the recipient of the Golden Lion at the 2005 Venice Art Biennale.

Van Gogh at the Atelier des Lumières

Hot on the heels of the very successful Klimt exhibition, the Atelier des Lumières has chosen another world famous and world class artist for its next exhibition. The first digital art centre in Paris, the space brings paintings to life by projecting them onto the wall, ceilings and floor creating an immersive show that all will love, whether young or old!

When? From the 22nd of February to the 31st of December 2019

Sally Mann at the Jeu de Paume 

Sally Mann, is a great American photographer who uses her art to explore the themes of death, sexuality and family. Her portraits of children, her landscapes, her work on nudity are snapshots of their socio-geographical context: the southern United States. Her images are powerful and won’t leave you feeling indifferent.

When? From the 18th of June to the 22nd of September 2019

Where? Jeu de Paume – 1 Place de la Concorde, 75008 Paris

Lee Ufan at the Centre Pompidou Metz

World famous Korean artist Lee Ufan has built an artistic practice related to the to nature and the elements. The exhibition goes back over the prolific artist’s 50-year career, highlighting some of his monumental works. The artist invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship between man and his environment by contrasting nature and industry. This exhibition seems set to be both poetic and touching.

When? From the 27th of February to the 30th of September 2019

Where? Centre Pompidou-Metz

Van Gogh at Tate Britain, Londres

For this exceptional exhibition, the Tate Britain brings together 45 works by the famous Dutch painter with one aim: to show how Van Gogh was inspired by England and in turn how he inspired English artists. An interesting exhibition that might help you discover some of Van Gogh’s lesser known works.

When? From the 27th of March to the 11th of August 2019

Basquiat at the Guggenheim Museum

If you can’t get enough of Basquiat then you’re in for a treat, a new show featuring the artist is set to open at the Guggenheim in New York! The exhibition is organised around themes and is more focussed on specific aspects of Basquiat’s practice that the Louis Vuitton Foundation’s 2018 show and is particularly interested in the artist’s identity and cultural activism during his lifetime. An exhibition that should be aesthetically and intellectually enriching.

When? From the 21st of June to the 6th of November 2019
