Tate Modern London
The “Tate Modern” is the museum which gathers contemporary art collections of Tate. Opened in 2001, this former power plant is located in the center of London, at Bankside. Made of the best artists of the international contemporary scene, the collection is not deployed in a chronological manner but around precise thematics. Bacon, Mondrian, Rothko, Klein Beuys, Richter…all the great artists are present.
Hamburger Bahnhof
The Hamburger Bahnhof is a former Berlin train station, in the neighborhood of Moabit which houses the Museum für Gewenwart. In a surface area of 10000m2, the museum’s permanent collection is dedicated to the main artistic movements from the 60s to today, presenting artists’ works such as Roy Lichtenstein, Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol or Anselm Kiefer. Since 2004, in the adjacent Rieck-Hallen, works of art of Friedrich Christian Flick are exposed temporarily with artists like Nam June Paik or Bruce Nauman.
MAC’S Brussels
The Grand Hornu is an old industrial complex, registered in the UNESCO world heritage, which hosts since 2002 the Museum of Contemporary Arts of the Wallonia Federation Brussels. Restored by Pierre Hebbelinck, the MAC’S offers a collection of more than 300 works of art from 150 artists. The collection is built on themes such as the Place and the Memory.
MUSEO NACIONAL CENTRO DE ARTE REINA SOFIA
This old hospital transformed in a museum in the early 90s has a gigantic collection representing all the 20th century’s artistic movements. Within this architecture combining tradition and modernism (the building aimed to temporary exhibitions was drawn by Jean Nouvel), you will admire the Picasso’s painting Guernica or some Dali and Miro’s works of art.
