Louvre Abu Dhabi: Birth of a museum

Louvre Abu Dhabi, the national museum project initiated by France and the United Arab Emirates is scheduled to open in December 2015. Before the final departure of the collection, which will be exhibited in an architectural gem designed by Jean Nouvel, an exhibition of the works will be held at the Louvre in Paris.

Why should you see this show?

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has acquired numerous works and has now a rich and varied collection, including veritable artistic masterpieces. Once the Parisian exhibition closed and the doors of the new museum opened, these pieces will not be returning to France for some years, and when they will, it will only be temporary.

What makes this exhibition original?

The concept of the collection is that of a crossing between cultures and the unveiling of artworks from the four corners of the world. Art pieces of the same period but of different geographic origin are shown in parallel. This way, for example, Indian sculptures are strangely echoing to Roman ones.

A breathtaking exhibit

The show brings together exclusively pieces by great masters: Picasso, Manet, Gauguin, Klee, Caillebotte, Mondrian, Bellini, Magritte, etc. Paintings, drawings, furniture pieces, sculptures can be admired: a journey into time, throughout the world and into various artistic currents.

Louvre Abu Dhabi: the show will run through July 28th, 2014 at the Louvre in Paris
