Around the FIAC

Events - -

The 41stParis FIAC will take place between 23 and 26 October 2014. But the event is not only going to be staged under the glass dome of the Grand Palais! Artsper shows you what the events are “outside the walls”.

{Rendez-vous in the gardens}

There will be several works to admire in the Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin des Plantes. The public will be able to discover the many installations, sculptures and performances taking shape in the gardens’ walkways, around the ponds and on the lawns. Students from the Louvre school will be there most of the time to answer your questions on the works.

{La Cité de la Mode et du Design}

Sixty international galleries are established at the Docks – the Fashion and Design district in the 13th arrondissement – to enable new galleries and young artists to be discovered, and also the rediscovery of artists who are not well-known on the international artistic scene.

{Reopening of the Picasso museum}

On 25 October – the master’s birthday – the much awaited reopening of the museum, situated at the Hôtel Salé in the Marais, takes place!

{The Paris Mint}

On 25 October there is also the opening of the Paris Mint. This place enables the Mint’s work to be discovered, as well as exhibitions of contemporary art. Founded in 1864, La Monnaie de Paris is one of France’s oldest institutions.

Two events have been organised: Firstly, for the opening, the American artist John Baldessari will present his work “Your name in lights“. If you register, your name will illuminate Paris between the Pont Neuf and the Pont des Arts for 15 seconds!

Next, Paul McCarthy will be the first artist exhibiting in the institution with his exhibition “Chocolate Factory”.

{Public spaces: The Banks of the Seine}

FIAC commits to public spaces and offers a sound event on the banks of the Seine: the route is organised between the Jardin des Tuileries, the Concorde bridge, the Alexandre III bridge, Les Invalides bridge and the Grand Palais.

{Lee Ufan at the Château de Versailles}

The South Korean artist, Lee Ufan, is guest of honour at the Château de Versailles. Ten impressive works punctuate the visits to the domain’s gardens. They are created in noble and raw materials, a combination of stone with metal and thus a confrontation of contemporary society with nature.

{Women of Honour}

Niki de Saint Phalle’s retrospective is currently on show at the Grand Palais and it’s worth the detour! A second retrospective, dedicated to Sonia Delaunay, is to be found at the modern art museum in Paris city.

It is the culmination of a collaboration between the Louvre, the FIAC and the Ricard business foundation.
