French photographer and film-maker of Romanian origin, Eli Lotar takes various avant-gardist photos : urban wanderings, portraits where “worrying strangeness of a being” resonates, photo-reporting… Distilling some surrealism, political impetus and a dash of poetry, leading to humanism. As a proof, an iconic documentary of Aubervilliers, narrated by Jacques Prévert, penetrates a dreamlike aspect through post-war misery.

KEITA MORIS – DRAWING LAB PARIS
View of the exhibition Strings, by Keita Mori © Drawing Lab Paris
An unusual place or an arty hotel, each floor is devoted to the artist’s imagination. The Drawing Lab Paris, headed by the founder of the Drawing Now Fair, Christine Phal, wishes to extract the drawing from its frame, in order to remove all the strings. During its opening, this private art center invites Keita Mori for“an ambitious project on migration, transit, passage between two moods and two bordering states. Through his unique techniques (large mural designs of textile threads), the exhibition is a metaphor for passing through” explains the exhibition commissioner, Gael Charbau.
The spectator’s role is to mentally re-build the space, by pulling strings through the hints given by volume and perspective.

With omnipresent and omnipotent music taking over spaces, the hybrid relationship between visual arts and music, forged its path in Metz.
“Listening to music isn’t enough, one needs to see it as well”, says the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. Musicircus takes these words at face value through synergies between musicality and movement. The key works of Centre Pompidou highlight the dawn of abstract art to put contemporary art in the limelight. Musicircus performance, signed John Cage in 1967, “unite all sorts of music which are usually divided” and opens the path to multidisciplinary creation.

Sensitive steps of reality – MONTRÉAL
And now look at this machine © Emmanuel Licha
Through precision and resolute finesse, the endemic conflicts of the society are updated with a new face. Teresa Margolles who has more than twenty years of experience, tries to make the invisible visible, by condemning violence which is erased by the borders. And now look at this machine, an installation signed by Emmanuel Licha, is part of the war hotels of Beirut, Gaza, Kiev and Sarajevo, to capture unexplored views. The traces of the war correspondents unveils the important aspects of space, where relationship between waiters, clients, maitre d’hôtel highlight a sense of conflict.
Distancing oneself from the borders, in order to capture sensitive traces of reality, this is the aim of the two astute and salutary artists, for our time.

Marina Abramovic – Moderna Museet Stockholm

An eulogist of performance. Under her Madonna exterior, Marina Abramovic, a Serbian artist of 70 years, has become a legendary icon of contemporary art since her performance at the Venice Biennial. The Moderna Museet of Stockholm offers her first major retrospective, depicting hybrid work, constantly refusing physical and mental limits. The immersive screens take advantage of an idea, whereas her photos or even paintings underline protean character of a changing artist.
